ATLAS is one of the four main experiments being performed on the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN). This is a project that seeks to gather scientists from around the world in order to push the frontiers of science and technology through studies that can lead to innovative discoveries, such as the Higgs boson, physics beyond the Standard Model and developing new theories to better describe our universe. The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile participates along with other national universities in the construction of necessary measurement equipment for the operation of the project, as well as in the analysis of the information obtained.
International Mixed Units are units created between institutions in one country and the French CNRS, which are established in different countries to develop research in various areas. Its objective is to strengthen the scientific exchange relations between France and Chile in matters of common scientific interest. The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile participates along with other national universities in two of the existing IMUs in Chile, the Franco-Chilean Laboratory of Astronomy and the Evolutionary Biology and Ecology of Algae.
International Associated Laboratories are projects that bring together two associated institutions that contribute human and material resources to a jointly defined objective. Each laboratory maintains its independence and legal status, maintains its directors, and remains in its individual locations. The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile together with the Sorbonne Université participate in the LIA ANDES “Development of antiviral therapeutic approaches targeting viral translation”.
The International Man-Media Observatories constitute a research system dedicated to understanding complex ecosystems, in which man interacts directly with the Geosphere and the Biosphere with which constitutes unique ecosystems. The network is made up of 12 research centers in different parts of the world for the study of climate change. The Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile participates in this network with its Patagonia Station which is the first Latin American OHM-I observatory.
